Rad. Tech. Students Gain National Recognition

October 27, 2011

Congratulations to BCC’s Radiologic Technology students for taking an initiative in fundraising by supporting the “The Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging”! The “Image Gently” campaign (www.imagegently.org) goal is to change practice by increasing the awareness of the opportunities to lower radiation dose in imaging children. As the front line in the imaging process, the technologist/x-ray student plays a key role on the imaging team. Radiology and CT scanning are critical in diagnosing illness in children and ultimately improving patient outcomes. The students and faculty have shown their commitment to improve radiation protection for children within our community by taking the “Pledge to Image Gently” and having progressive discussions within the radiology and CT courses!

The BCC Radiologic Technology students  decided to further support this campaign by selling wrist bands stating; “I Pledge to Image Gently”.  The Alliance was excited to hear about their fundraiser and requested an image be sent their way. They then posted this image, along with an article of their endeavors on their website. As of today, 6506 imaging professionals have taken the pledge! The Alliance requested permission to share this image and fundraising idea to the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Professional Organization. Click here for the article recognizing our students nationally for their efforts in imaging gently.

The students further supported this campaign by purchasing and wearing t-shirts stating this pledge at the Binghamton’s  Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. Many participants at the walk thanked us for our pledge. According to the BCC’s Radiologic Technology Class of 2012, Imaging Gently applies to all patients, especially children!

Great job, students!

I like this kind of program that gets involve in helping the community with different organizations. Fundraising is very important part of our community, because you are helping those who are not so fortunate. I want to be part of this team, we need more of these kind of people. Thank you for caring so much.
